''83rd Infantry Division Newspapers''
This is my collection of NEWSPAPERS whitin the EIGHTY THIRD Infantry Division.
First of all there were the training period newspapers like "The BOUNCE". Several other Newspapers were published late in and just after World War Two. The initial name for the 83rd Newspaper was "SPEARHEAD". After a contest written out in the Spearhead, the name "THUNDERBOLT" was chosen for the Official Weekly Newspaper and official nickname of the 83rd Infantry Division.
The 83rd Newspapers were written by the officers and men of the 83rd, and published weekly for the men of the 83rd under the supervision of Captain John C. Neff, Information-Education Officer, and Captain Thomas C. Roberts, the Public Relations Office (PRO).
All material is censored by AC of S, G-2. Member Camp Newspaper Service (MCNS), 205 East 42nd St. New York City.
There were also the Regimental Newspapers like "The TTF" from the 331st Regimental Combat Team and the "GAZETTE" from Hq & Hq Company of the 330th Infantry Regiment.
The "THUNDERBOLT TIMES" was a daily news summery edited and published in Linz, Austria, by the Public Relations Office 83rd Infantry Division APO 83.
All newspapers are now scanned in a high resolution pdf-file instead of the earlier jpg-file.
Another good site with many newspapers that do not appear here is the site of Thijs Hodiamont at https://83rdinfdivdocs.org/docs/newspapers/
